Texting is nice, yes. It can be a great way to get to know someone in a low-commitment environment. But to those of us who aren’t major texters, it can also be too much when a guy overdoes it (or vice-versa). It feels almost suffocating when a guy you barely know (or perhaps haven’t met yet, if it’s online dating) is texting you every day, sending “good morning” and “good night” messages when you’ve barely gotten to know each other. I think there’s a natural progression to things, and a lot of girls do like that. It doesn’t feel rushed. It doesn’t feel too pressured. Just natural. I think it also gives an air of mystery about it…we have to earn your interest a little bit. If a guy you’re only getting to know constantly flings compliments left and right, texts you all the time, and makes it overly clear that he’s smitten, it CAN feel a little too much too fast. I usually look for the nearest exit when that happens, to be honest, because I feel that he’s looking for an instant girlfriend and NOT something meaningful built on trust, natural progression (getting to know each other first), and mutual respect. It almost feels like he doesn’t want to take the time to know you first, but that he does want a girlfriend on his arm ASAP…and then you wonder if it’s just ANY girl he’d gladly put in your place if you walked away.
And of course, this can also go for girls doing this to guys as well. It’s interchangeable.
